GFRC offers the opportunity to build lighter, more efficient structures while retaining the traditional aesthetic of the large homogenous 3D shapes of stone or traditional masonry. Compared to pre-cast concrete 150mm thick, which produces 100+ kgs of CO2 per M2 taken over a 60-year design life, GFC is assessed at 45 kg/m2.

•Buildings generate up to 38% of the global CO2 emissions. The cement industry is the second highest polluter globally; 1 ton of cement = ~900kg CO2 emissions.

•As we move towards the Net Zero Carbon targets by 2050 (which many people believe is 25 years too late), GFRC is environmentally preferred due to reduced energy use and emissions in production

•“If the cement industry was a country, it would be the third largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world.”

•The BRE Green Guide 2008 rating for the relative environmental impacts of GFRC cladding was A+.

•BRE Verified Environmental Product Declarations are available for both GFRC and brick-faced GFRC

Custom Details & Engineering
METAL FRAME

The GFRC stud frame panel consists of a single skin of GFRC attached to a prefabricated frame, usually galvanized metal with flexible anchors and support anchors.

The flex anchors are for lateral support to the GFRC facing, while allowing some degree of rotation and shrinkage/movement of the GFRC.

COLOR & TEXTURE

Beyond texture and color, finishes are a way to accentuate the design of a custom façade by highlighting the surface properties of GFRC through clean lines, bright colors, or exposed aggregate.

Discover the magic of GFRC through real-life project examples that showcase the material’s transformative power in diverse architectural applications. From grand façades to intricate interior details, these projects exemplify the versatility, beauty, and strength of GFRC. Explore how Petra Design collaborates with architects, designers, and builders to turn imaginative visions into concrete reality with GFRC.
